Course description:
Whether or not you're aware of it, every time you interact with your dog you're learning something and the dog's learning something. Whether the dog's learning something good is another story. In this seven-week course, owners will gain a better understanding of how their every action affects their dog's behavior.
In the introductory lecture, owners will be introduced to the universal principles of learning that guide behavior in all animals. Through demonstrations using dogs, chickens, and humans, as well as video clips and slides, they will then see how these principles can be applied in real life. In the remaining 6 classes, participants will learn basic exercises and how these exercises can be used to prevent or handle behavior problems such as aggression towards other dogs, unruly behavior when greeting strangers, and chasing cars and bikes. Owners will also learn how to teach their dog the appropriate way to greet other dogs and how to hold still for routine veterinary and homecare procedures.
(First lecture is two hours and is for people-only. Owners should bring their dogs to the following six weeks. Family members as well as others who interact with the dog participants are encouraged to attend the introductory lecture as well as the actual training sessions).
